It’s a very busy time in softball as we head into the weekend after July 4th weekend… in Southern Calif., for example, you have three big events going on: the World Cup of Softball, the Champions Cup and the Surf City Summer Showcase which starts tomorrow.

Prior to the start of the tournament tomorrow, the Surf City Tourneys/PGF Summer Showcase Camp was held today from noon to 4 pm in Fountain Valley, Calif.

There were 123 standout players who came from six states — Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Texas and Washington — to work out under the tutelage of standout club coaches like Mike Stith and Mark Campbell (OC Batbusters), Marty Tyson (Corona Angels), Bret Denio (Explosion) and Dean Fausett (So Cal Choppers) among others.

There were some notable college coaches watching too, including Patty Gasso (Oklahoma) and Gina Vecchione (Cal Poly), as well as legendary Hall of Famer Sue Enquist.

The players went through the gamut of drills, including pitching, hitting, catching and fielding and were also timed in running tests.

We spoke to coaches who were administering the drills as well as college coaches watching and here are 10 players who impressed (not saying these were the best, just saying they caught someone’s eye!):
