World Cup 9 begins today (7/7)

The General Tire World Cup of Softball IX kicks off today (July 7) and will run through Sunday at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, Calif.

The tournament, hosted by Southern California ASA, features seven participating countries (Canada, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, USA, and Venezuela) after Puerto Rico had to cancel participation due to the economic problems facing the country.

Their will be 26 games played over the next seven days: here’s the schedule of games**.

A sanctioned event by the International Softball Federation (ISF), the Japanese National team will look to defend its World Cup title as they defeated Team USA 6-3 in the championship game in 2013.

Mon:
First 500 Fans to enter the park receive a 2014 USA Softball Women’s National Team Poster!
Be there when USA Softball Alumni athletes are honored during pre-game ceremonies before the USA vs. Mexico exhibition game at 7 p.m.

NOTE: Thursday is PINK OUT DAY! Wear Pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness

Fri:
First 300 Fans receive a koozie courtesy of General Tire.

Sat:
First 500 Fans to enter the park receive a  Lanyard!

Sun:
First 300 Fans receive a Chapstick courtesy of Sports Authority!
