MaxPreps has announced that Johanna Grauer from Amador Valley (Pleasanton, Calif.) is the 2014 National Softball Player of the Year and Monte Sherrill of Alexander Central (Taylorsville, N.C.) is the National Coach of the Year.

Grauer led the Dons to the No. 1 national ranking according to MaxPreps (they were No. 2 behind Mission Viejo (Calif.) in the StudentSportsSoftball.com ratings) as she went 26-0 with 14 shutouts and a 0.51 ERA with 290 K’s in 190 innings.

Coach Sherrill led Central to its fourth state title in six seasons with this one being extra sweet as one daughter, Bailey, was the tournament MVP and another, Vada, was the Gatorade State Player of the Year and a 1^st Team All-American by MaxPreps and StudentSportsSoftball.com.

During the year, Sherill won his 700^th career game and has his team riding a 67 game win streak.
