All-American headed to ACC (6/30)

Last week when the All-American teams came out, one of the pitchers who made the 2nd Team All-American squad was Kendra Friedt and for good reason: the junior at Southington (Conn.) High led her team to a second straight state championship while going 24-0 with a 0.33 ERA and a school-record 256 strikeouts compared to only 21 walks.

Kendra only gave up three extra base hits all year as she went 24-0.
Kendra led Southington to a second straight state title.

Last Tuesday on a phone call with Boston College, the talented pitcher committed to the ACC program despite serious interest from Penn, Yale, Villanova and several other D1 Schools.

“Ever since I was little I wanted to play in college,” Kendra told the Record-Journal, which covers Central Connecticut. “Boston College is a perfect fit because they have great academics and a great softball team.”

The pitcher helped her Blue Knights team dominate this year as she only allowed 42 hits with just three being for extra bases (and none were home runs). Not surprisingly, she earned All-State honors as well.

“She had gone to the Boston College camp,” says her mother, Katrina, “and visited Yale, BC, Maryland and Villanova over the winter and Georgetown in the fall after missing the end of summer and most of fall with an injury.”

Two weeks ago the junior, who plays for the CT Charmers 18U Gold team in the summer, went to the Boston College camp after being seeing by Head Coach Ashley Obrest during a Blue Knights high school game.

The offer came during the camp and it didn’t take long for Kendra to make it official.

“She didn’t really choose BC because it was close,” adds her mother. “She was really focused on the balance of academics and softball and BC had been her No. 1 choice since she starting looking as a freshman. She wants to be a biology major.”
