We previously profiled the Tulsa Elite ’95 team that won the 2012 ASA/USA 16A National Championship and 16U Colorado Fireworks, then followed that up this past summer by finishing 5th at ASA Gold Nationals.

Then also profiled Tulsa Elite ’96 team that finished 13th at the 2013 ASA/USA 16A Nationals, while also finishing 3rd at 16U Colorado Fireworks.
In 2013, the team finished 7th at ASA/USA 14A Nationals, were crowned Co-Champions at Kansas City Top Gun Invitational and Champions at the Elite June Invitational. The ‘98 team is coached by Richard Galvan and Brett Pennington, who played baseball at the University of Oklahoma under the guidance of Tulsa Elite Founder/GM Jeff Filali, who is also an Assistant Coach at Butler Community College.
The team had a very successful fall season with a record of 25-5-2 against predominately 18 Gold teams. They put up an impressive 215 runs, including scoring five against KC Peppers Gold (9th at 2013 Premier Nationals), six runs against Tulsa Elite ’95 (5th at 2013 ASA Gold Nationals) and shutout several very strong teams.
Here’s a player-by-player look at the Tulsa Elite ‘98 16U team with comments by Filali:
— RHP Brittany Beaudet (2016, uncommitted)
“Brittany pitched for our 16U this past season, even though she was only 14 years old. She matured a lot and is developing into a very solid pitching prospect. She has a natural dropball and drop-curve in the upper 50’s that are very difficult to hit and adds a great change-up. She has started throwing a riseball and should be a true up/down pitcher by the time she gets to college.”
— RHP/SS Sydney Pennington (2017, uncommitted)
“Sydney is one of the top 2017s in our region, with great power at the plate and tremendous athleticism and already has started receiving multiple Div I offers Her overarm velocity has been clocked as high as 70mph at camps and she pitches in the low 60s.”
— RHP/IF Taylor Compton (2017, uncommitted)
“Taylor previously played for Tulsa Eagles and Wichita Mustangs, but has really came on strong in the circle this year. She is a student of Doug Gillis and already a true “up/down” pitcher with great movement and throws in the 59-61 mph range with good size to throw a lot harder. She had a tremendous fall that included holding her own against some of the Top Gold teams in the Region like KC Peppers-Eakin, Tulsa Elite ’95, Tulsa Shootout, etc.”
— C/IF Hayleigh Galvan (2016, uncommitted)
“Hayleigh is very athletic with a cannon arm in the upper 60s and hits with big power. Her ball exit speeds have been clocked in the 80s. She has started going on visits and receiving offers.”
— SS Aubrey Johnson (2016, uncommitted)
“Aubrey scored very high at OnDeck camps last summer and has already started Div I visits. She’s a great middle infielder and has a very good bat. Potentially a great right-handed leadoff hitter.”
— 3B Elexis Watson (2017, uncommitted)
“Lexi is still young enough to play 14U, but has phenomenal power at the plate and hits a lot of HRs. She’s already started receiving interest from a lot of Div I programs.”
— MIF/OF De’Leigh “Dee” Emarthle (2016, uncommitted)
“Dee has a solid bat with HR power and led the team in HRs last fall with 8 while also hitting over .400. She’s got solid range in the outfield and a good arm.”
— OF Paige Westover (2015, uncommitted)
“Paige is the only 2015 on the 16s this year and that wasn’t due to any lack of abilities, we just had too many outfielders to move up and felt the 16U team would benefit from her leadership. She has several offers.”
— OF/1B/LHP Kennedy “Goose” Salyers (2016, uncommitted)
“Goose is a true lefty and leadoff hitter for the team. She has a lot of pop, hits a lot of doubles and is very quick.”
— OF Sierra Spurlock (2017, uncommitted)
“Sierra is young and has only been playing A level ball for two seasons, but has good power at the plate and works very hard to continue to improve.”
— OF Cheyenne Marshall (2017, uncommitted)
“Cheyenne is a young outfielder with good size and athleticism. She works very hard and continues to improve her abilities.”
