Justus’ blog: Southern hospitality (6/23)

After a long, cold Minnesota winter, Auburn-bound Justus Perry, a 2016 infielder from Prior Lake High, is now training in the warm Alabama summer days as she and her club team gets ready to hit the road.
Justus and her father regularly travel the 2,000 mile round-trip to and from Birmingham, Ala. to practice and player with her Birmingham Thunderbolts 97 club team.
Perry has been a 2nd team “AAA” All-State selection the last two years for one of the state’s top teams and had originally committed to Arizona State, but with the coaching change and Clint Myers moving to Auburn, she’s headed to the SEC and will play in the same state where her club team practices.
Also, last summer at the PGF Nationals we met the talented sophomore and learned about an unusual talent she has for being able to take any word and immediately repeat it backwards!

The summer is finally underway, and I have been training and living in Alabama for a month with the Birmingham Thunderbolts club team.
I now understand why they say that southerners provide extreme hospitality!
The coaches, players and parents have been beyond wonderful to me and my family. We have long, hard practices in the summer Alabama heat every day. Normally there are two practices a day, with an ice bath in between.

Having the opportunity to be coached by former ASU All-American standout Kaitlyn Boyd, has given me the desire to work even harder every day.
We practice everyday with the 18U Premier Bolts team and this also makes me work harder to improve and be as successful as them.
I feel I have improved in my fielding and pitch selection a ton since leaving Minnesota for the summer. We have been traveling around the country to attend college showcases. Our team has been winning a lot of games.
We are headed to Colorado next weekend for a tournament. My dad told me last night that one of our first games, ironically, is against the Minnesota Sting, the team I played for last summer.
My parents fly to the tournaments every weekend and spend time with some of the nicest people we have ever met.
I am living the dream this summer, being part of an extremely professional and driven organization, and for that I am very thankful.
BOLTS BOOM!
