FAB 50 Rankings – Week 13 (6/10)

Winning a fourth straight state title, avenging an earlier loss and beating a team that was No. 5 in the previous FAB 50 national rankings often gets a huge bump in the next rankings.

Unfortunately for the Hoover (North Canton, Ohio) softball team, there were just too many other state champs or state finalists that had already ended the season. It was therefore only a more modest jump from No. 26 to No. 19 after a 6-1 win last weekend over Grove City in the Division I state final.

The seniors at Hoover (North Canton, Ohio) won a state title each of their years in high school ball!

Before beating Grove City, the Vikings took on previous No. 5 Lebanon and handed that team its first loss of the season. Back in April, Lebanon gained stature by beating Hoover at the Wendy’s Classic.

There also could have been bigger changes had there been an upset in the North Carolina Class 4A finals, but unbeaten Alexander Central capped a 35-0 season and extended its win streak to 66 games with a two-game sweep against Cape Fear of Fayetteville.

Coach Monte Sherrill’s team, led by daughters Vada and Bailey, couldn’t move up from No. 3 in the FAB 50 since No. 1 Mission Viejo and No. 2 Amador Valley (both from California) are done playing.

After this week, the only FAB 50 ranking left for the 2014 high school season is the final installment. In addition to the four teams ranked that are still playing, there will be more research completed for all states that may lead to a few flip-flops or a last-second newcomer.

There will be at least one new team for the final rankings because two of the teams still playing could meet each other in the Michigan state playoffs.

Here are this week’s rankings:
