5 soph. infielders to watch (5/16)

As we continue to do our homework and due diligence in researching top players for the Hot 100 2016’s, we come across several infielders that are highly-touted by college and club coaches alike.

In no particular order, here are five players from the Class of 2016 who are definitely candidates to make the list of the top 100 players in their class regardless of position!

Kaitlyn Martin
Kaitlyn Martin

— 1B Kaitlyn Martin (2016, committed to Tennessee)… plays for NC Lady Lightning Team Miken
Scouting Report: Kaitlyn is a pure power hitting lefty hitter who can drive the ball deep to all fields.  Prides herself on working hard to develop her swing.  A hard-working competitor, Kaitlyn is ready for any challenge a pitcher may throw at her.  Can definitely change the game with one swing.

— IF Nicole Bates (2016, Washington)… plays for Firecrackers-Norcal
Scouting Report: One of the top 2-3 prospects from Northern California, Nicole is a triple threat lefty who can play short, second or third equally well.  Some privately say she’s one of the top 10 players in the class, period, because of her advanced skill level, competitiveness and professional composure.

— 1B/OF Bethaney Keen (2016, South Florida)… plays for Tampa Mustangs-TJ
Scouting Report: Scouts feel Bethaney is one of the best lefty hitting and fielding first basemen in the country.  She’s hit over .400 every season she’s played and defensively she has great glove skills and impressive footwork around the bag.  She hit five homers last year and that should improve greatly this summer.

Mackenzie Boesel
Mackenzie Boesel

— SS Mackenzie Boesel (2016, South Carolina)… plays for So Cal A’s-Richardson
Scouting Report: A great student with a 4.5 GPA, Mackenzie was the Orange County Freshman of the Year last year and is a big-time hitter.  Her strengths are her defense and hitting and her ceiling is very high.  One scout said “Mackenzie is becoming a big-time player and could end up in the top half of the Hot 100.”

— 3B/C Kayla Konwent (2016, Wisconsin)… plays for Illinois Chill
Scouting Report: Kayla is a power-hitting phenon: she hit seven home runs in fall competition and drove in 37 runs in only 67 at bats while striking out just twice. She’s a rare combination of power and contact and has also hit 71 mph on her overhand throw. She’s a proto-type corner infielder/catching prospect.
