Recruiting News & Notes (5/15)

Nothing makes us happier than to profile a player and then hear shortly after that she has committed! That was the case this week when a standout pitcher from North Carolina–one of the nicest athletes we’ve ever talked to, by the way–let us know of good news about her future.
We also have some more verbals to report which we’ve added to our Master Verbal List updated earlier today..

*** On May 1, we profiled Mary Williams, a 2015 P/UT with the Carolina Wildcats who at that time was 16-0 pitching for her Cape Fear, N.C. high school team. Here’s the link to her profile.

She wrote us recently to say that last week she committed to East Carolina and that heading into yesterday’s playoffs her team was 20-0 (she had all the wins) and had won both their conference and their conference tournament .
We asked her some questions about her commitment…
StudentSportsSoftball.com: Tell us how you were first seen by the coaches, then how long until they offered?
Mary Williams: I was first seen by them back in January at their pitching camp. They offered me this month so it was four months later that they made me the offer.
SSS.com: When did you decide to commit and what led into the decision?
MW: I decided to commit (last Thursday) and really what led me to my decision was my heart. I’ve been praying long and hard about God’s plan for me and I feel this is exactly where He wants me.
SSS.com: How did you let the ECU coaches know you’d be committing?
MW: I told them over the phone!
SSS.com: What did it feel like telling them?
MW: I was beyond excited! I was so blessed and relieved. The feeling is indescribable!
SSS.com: How far away from home will be? Was distance a factor in your decision at all?
MW: It is a little less than two hours away. Distance was a factor because I am really close to my parents and siblings and having them close to me and able to come to my home games means the world.
*** Thanks to Coach Ian Raymond of the Chattanooga Force 97 program who writes to add three juniors to our verbal list:
— OF Allie Jones (2015, Lincoln Memorial University)
— OF Allison Meadows (2015, Lee University)
— OF Hallie Davis (2015, Lee University)

*** Courtney Sleeman, a 2015 catcher with the Lakeshore Storm (Mich)., has committed to Western Michigan.
“Courtney is a fantastic defensive catcher who knows the game exceptionally well,” says her coach Deb Sleeman. “She has great defensive instincts, controls the infield very well and brings a sense of calmness to her pitchers.”
“Courtney does a great job with blocking the ball, has quick hands and has a great arm throwing to all bases. Offensively, Courtney swings the bat with power and loves to hit in the clutch situation. She’s a team player, strives to compete and also enjoys playing third base.”
