Last night was the last home game for St. Thomas Aquinas High of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., which is rated No. 9 in this week’s FAB 50 national high school rankings.

The Raiders won easily behind the powerful bat of catcher Gwen Svekis, a senior who signed with Oregon last November and was ranked as the No. 16 overall player in our Hot 100 for the ’14 class.

If Svekis has many more performances like last night, they might have to name the school field after her.

Last year in the playoffs Gwen hit 10-for-23 to help lead Aquinas to the Class 7A state championship. This year in four playoff games she’s even more dialed in… get a load of these numbers: 9-for-10 with a double, a triple and seven homers, 16 RBI and a walk.

 That’s not a misprint—in her last 10 at-bats, seven of them were home runs!

Three came last night as Gwen went 3-for-3 with six RBI in the 12-1 win over Hialeah’s American High. You can see each of the two-run blasts below…

Incidentally, the Raiders advance to play Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer on Friday night with the winner advancing to the state final four the next Friday.
