It wasn’t quite like the 80-game winning streak that came to an end earlier this season in Maryland, but as far as the FAB 50 is concerned it was equally huge that the 51-game win streak owned by Hoover of North Canton (Ohio) is now over.

Hoover, like Northern of Owings Mills (Md.) earlier in the season, was sitting in the top five of the national rankings and with another unbeaten state title team would be a contender for the final No. 1 position.

But in the Red Pool championship at last Saturday’s 21st annual Wendy’s Classic in Ashland (Ohio), Hoover’s win streak was snapped at 51 in a 3-1 loss to Lebanon.

Tara Trainer struck out 12 in pitching the Warriors to the win and was backed up offensively by Kim Frank, who hit a two-run, two-out tie-breaking single in the fifth inning.

With the win, Lebanon also improved its own record to 8-0 while dropping Hoover to 6-1. Tara Thacker, Hoover’s ace pitcher, took the loss, which is only the second so far in her four-year career.

According to the Canton Repository newspaper, Trainer plus six other current Lebanon players were on the field when the team lost to Hoover in the 2012 Division I state final.

In this week’s FAB 50, instead of plunging Hoover toward the bottom or out, we were more inclined to reward Lebanon and have moved up that team from unranked to No. 23 with Hoover falling right behind at No. 24.
