Kissimmee Klassic: upset in finals (4/6)

Saturday saw the final action in the 22nd annual Kissimmee Klassic in Florida and the last day of action didn’t disappoint.
Here’s a rundown of the championship games and the honors given out in each bracket:
*****
BLUE DIVISON:
You have to hand it to Columbia from Lake City, Fla.—when you beat two of the nation’s Top 10 teams in one day, you deserve to win a tournament.

That’s exactly what the Tigers, ranked No. 18 nationally in the StudentSportsSoftball.com FAB 50, did on Saturday as they beat Harmony and outstanding pitcher Lele Ocasio, ranked No. 7 in the latest FAB 50 rankings, 8-0 in the semis and then topped St. Thomas Aquinas, the No. 2 nationally rated team, 1-0 in the championship game.
And behind both victories was pitcher Erin Anderson who allowed only two hits over five innings in the Harmony when and then came back in the title clash and scattered six hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out six and not allowing any runs.
Her resume for the day: two wins with no runs given up in 12 innings against very elite competition.
And to top it off, Anderson’s fourth inning single to drive home Kayli Kvistad was the game-winning hit as well.
That puts the Tigers at 15-1 and after Saturday’s performance look for them to make a big jump this week in the national ratings.
Not surprisingly, Anderson was named the MVP of the blue bracket, but recognition has to go out to Meghan King of Aquinas who did take the loss, but still allowed only four hits while striking out 12 in the championship game and pitched two shutouts on Friday to help the Raiders make it to the championship game.

Blue Bracket MVP
Erin Anderson (Columbia)… championship game winning RBI
Outstanding Offensive
Gabbee Draney (Gulliver Prep Miami)… batted .750 (9-for-12)
Outstanding Defensive
Meghan King (Aquinas Ft Lauderdale)… allowed only earned run in four games
GOLD DIVISION:
Tampa Chamberlain beat Riverview (Riverview, Fla.) 7 to 6 to capture the title in the Gold Bracket.

The Chiefs jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings and appeared to be cruising to the win behind pitcher Olivia Dwyer, who was named the bracket’s MVP.
The big blow for Chamberlain came in the bottom of the second when catcher Hope Hernandez hit a bases-clearing single.
However, Riverview tied the score with four in the top of the fifth and went ahead in the top of the sixth on a Peyton Mortiz single to put the Sharks up 6-5.
The Chiefs took the lead in the bottom of the sixth thanks to three Riverview errors with third baseman Jenna Brownell scoring what would be the game winning run.
Chamberlain improved to 21-3 and wraps up the No. 1 seed in its eight-team district.
The strong play in the Kissimmee Klassic follows a 3-1 performance at the Bartow Invitation where the Chiefs beat state ranked Strawberry Crest and Bartow, ranked No. 25 nationally in the latest StudentSportsSoftball.com FAB 50.

Olivia Dwyer (Chamberlain Tampa)… 3-0 record

Alissa Jackson (Riverview Sarasota)… batted .714 (10-for-14)
