Michelle Carew Classic – Day 3 (4/5)

The final four teams contending for Saturday’s championship game in the Michelle Carew Classic have been set.

One of the favored teams going into the event, Amador Valley of Pleasanton, Calif., is poised to make the championship while another favorite was knocked off Friday.

Haley Copeland was nearly perfect on Friday.
Haley Copeland pitched a one-hitter on Friday against a top 10 team.

Johanna Grauer pitched another gem, giving up only one hit while striking out 11 in a 1-0 win over Great Oak of Temecula to help the Dons, the No. 3 ranked team in the latest FAB 50 national ranks, advance to the semifinals.

Amador Valley will play Esperanza on Saturday at 1 pm which was led by outstanding pitching from South Carolina commit Hayley Copeland who shut down a powerful Pacifica team 2-0.

She no-hit the Mariners through five innings and finished with a one-hitter while striking out 12 as her curve ball baffled the hitters of Pacifica, ranked No. 9 in the FAB 50.  Kaylee Carlson took the loss allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out 10. It wasn’t a huge upset, however, as the Aztecs are ranking No. 16 in the rankings.

The winner of the Amador Valley/Esperanza game will face the winner of the other semi which matches Alhambra of Martinez vs. Los Alamitos.

Alhambra came from behind to defeat Vista Murrieta on Friday with a tying run in the fifth and the winning run in the sixth to advance.

Los Alamitos pulled out a 11 inning thriller against Yorba Linda, which was ranked No. 32 in the FAB 50 going into the event.  The Griffins won on a two-run single in the bottom of the 11th by freshman Allisha Martinez
