Kissimmee Klassic standouts – Day 1 (4/4)


The first day of the 2014 Kissimmee Klassic in Florida is in the books and there were many individual standout performances.
Here’s a look at some of the best:

BLUE DIVISON
Gulliver Prep pitcher Gabbee Draney picked up the win allowing two earned runs over seven innings and also shined at the plate going 3-for-4 with an RBI in the 5-4 victory against P.K. Yonge. Infielder Jessica Reviera also was part of the Raiders win as she matched Draney’s linescore: 3-for-4 with a run batted in.

Infielder Kayli Kvistad went 2-for-4 and knocked in the game winning run in the seventh inning as Columbia beat Central 5-4. Kvistad is a senior and has signed with Florida.

Harmony showed why it’s one of the top teams in the country as the Longhorns beat Countryside 7-1 with Florida commit Lele Ocasio striking out eight over six innings and launching two home runs to plate four RBI. Infielder Maddie Urquila also went deep twice and scored three runs herself as part of a 2-for-2 game.

Samantha Worrell pitched five innings allowing three hits and three earned runs to get the win for Hagery in the 15-5 win over Canterbury. She also did it at the plate, going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI

One of, if not the best, batteries in the nation belongs to St. Thomas Aquinas and that was on display Thursday as pitcher Meghan King, a senior pitcher signed with Maryland, threw a complete game shutout allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out 10. Catcher Gwen Svekis, an Oregon signee, went 2-for-2 with a home run.

Pitcher Sarah Maloney did well in the circle and at the plate in Cypress Bay’s 7-2 win over Niceville. She scattered five hits over seven innings allowing only one earned run while going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI hitting in the 5 spot. Boston College commit Lexi DiEmmanuele, went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Another shootout came in the Barron Collier 8-7 win over Coral Reef. The offensive star was Kailee Davidson who went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBI for the winning Cougars. Florida State bound infielder Carsyn Gordon went 3-for-3 with two RBI but she did take the loss in the circle allowing two earned runs in the last inning including a game-winning RBI double by Emily Gray.

Kara Lokeinsky of Cooper City pitched a gem of a game in the 1-0 win over Tate as she allowed only four hits in the complete game victory while striking out eight Aggies batters.
GOLD DIVISION
Pitcher Claire Blount of Pines Charter gave up only one hit and one walk over 4 and two-thirs inning in the 12-2 win over Pine Castle Christian. Blount, who also plays first, went 3-for-5 at the plate to help her own case. Catcher Jamie Gonzalez also shined at the plate for the winning Jaguars as she went 3-for-4 with two RBI

Trinity Prep got an outstanding pitching performance from Hannah Cavanaugh who scattered five hits and a walk over 8 1/3 inning as the Saints topped Taravella 1-0.

Another strong two-way performance in the 9-2 Florida Christian win over Jensen Beach as pitcher-designated hitter Karli Smith went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBI and also went 6 2/3 innings allowing no earned runs while striking out five.

Third baseman Carly Nicholas sparked the Riverview Rams to an 8-1 win over Lake Nona by going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI including a two run double in the bottom of the fifth.

Tampa Chamberlain blanked Douglas 10-0 led by infielder Kelsi Mays 3-for-4 performance with two RBI. Leadoff shortstop Lauren Williams went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI

Plant beat Osceola by a touchdown—7 to 0—as pitcher Megan Przeslawski pitched six scoreless innings giving up four hits while striking out 10.

River pitcher Kaitlyn McMilan pitched a complete game with only four hits and one earned run allowed in the 5-2 victory over Melbourne. She also struck out eight.

The 3 and 4-hole hitters did the bulk of the damage for Lake Brantley as the Patriots topped Melbourne 8-6. Shortstop Maikaela Aiken went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and third baseman Samantha Malik went 2-for-3 with two RBI also. Aiken hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to account for her runs knocked in.

It was a slugfest in the Osceola 11-10 win over Douglas as second baseman Haisette Escudero went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI and catcher Chantal Crockett went 3-for-3 with two runs plated.
