Justus’ blog: Minnesota winter

“As the new year sets in, the colder it seems to get,” says Justus Perry, a 2016 infielder from Prior Lake, Minn., of the brutal, record-setting frigid weather that’s hit much of the country in the last week.
That has resulted in cancelled days of school, but still the opportunity to play high school “dome ball.”
Club play is out of season right now, but when it comes to travel ball Justus racks up serious flight miles travelling with her father the 1,000 miles to and from Birmingham, Ala., to practice on the weekends with the Birmingham Thunderbolts.
Perry was a 2nd team “AAA” All-State selection as a freshman and led her high school to the state championship game.
She had originally committed to Arizona State, but is now headed to the SEC to play at Auburn, the same state where her club team is based.
This past summer at the PGF Nationals, we met the talented sophomore and learned about an unusual talent she has for being able to take any word and immediately repeat it backwards! Check out this video to see Justus in action!

As the new year sets in, the colder it seems to get.
Winter break was well needed and I spent my entire winter break at Auburn University at a camp. I learned a lot more about the game and the “Auburn Way.”

When I returned home from camp, I had school only on Thursday January 2 and last Friday January 3. You could say I was really looking forward to the weekend!
Late afternoon at school on Friday, we received notice that school had been cancelled for last Monday (Jan. 6) due to the plummeting temperatures and dangerously low wind chills.
Very excited, I passed the news on rapidly.
That Sunday I had my first doubleheader dome softball games. Around Minnesota there are many recreational domes most often used to play sports like soccer, lacrosse and softball.
I was very excited and wanted to make a huge impact at our first chance in the spotlight this year. Being the returning Class 3AAA second place team from state, we had a lot to prove. We went out with a bang and ended up winning both games.

Monday afternoon we received notice once again that school would be cancelled due to severe wind chills on Tuesday.
I spent Monday and Tuesday relaxing, working out and doing a little homework. The two extra days were definitely needed!
While not looking forward to the rest of the week, me and many of my friends are excited to have a short three-day week. Tomorrow (Sunday) are our next dome softball games against another very competitive team.
I’m definitely more than ready to start warming up here in Prior Lake, but have no plans for any more traveling in the upcoming month!
