Justus’ blog: too much snow!

“My dogs only make it outside for about 30 seconds for their walk and then I have to carry them back into the house!” Justus Perry, a 2016 infielder from Prior Lake, Minn., says of the cold December blast that she’s experiencing right now.
Despite it being winter and playing high school “dome ball,” when it comes to travel ball she racks up serious flight miles traveling with her father the 1,000 miles to and from Birmingham, Ala., to practice on the weekends with the Birmingham Thunderbolts.
Perry was a 2nd team “AAA” All-State selection this past year as a freshman and led her high school to the state championship game.
She had originally committed to Arizona State, but with the coaching change and Clint Myers now at Auburn, she’s headed to the SEC and will play in the same state where her club team practices.
This past summer at the PGF Nationals we met the talented sophomore and learned about an unusual talent she has for being able to take any word and immediately repeat it backwards (and she gives us a bit of this at the end of each blog)! Check out this video to see Justus in action!

As mid-December takes root up here in Minnesota, the days get shorter, the temperature drops and the workouts get challenging.
Every day it gets dark around 5 p.m. and the past few days the temperature doesn’t get much higher than two degrees out. My dogs only make it outside for about 30 seconds for their walk and then I have to carry them back into the house!

Lately, I’ve been in town more and with the snow it’s a little more challenging to fly due to all the cancellations that go on.
Over Thanksgiving it was nice to be home with my family and just relax. I was very thankful my friends and family and I were able to hang out.
My mom and I have been shopping a lot lately, and even participated in the 3 am Black Friday events. It’s nice every once in a while to take a break from my vigorous traveling schedule and spend time with my family and friends.
Although it’s winter and there is about eight inches of snow in my yard, that doesn’t mean a total break from softball.
I work out with my trainer two to three days a week and I hit in the garage with my dad. High school dome softball starts in a couple weeks, so no time away from training.
Sundays, in one of our many domes, I volunteer for a youth non-profit organization teaching young kids softball skills and talking to them about my journeys. I enjoy teaching all the skills and life lessons that have been blessed to me.
For Christmas, I asked Santa (Dad) for a speaker to play my music on, and some new boots!
I’ll wait until he’s in a good mood to ask for a car, a new bat, some jewelry etc., but most of all for all I wish for my friends and family to stay healthy and safe!
Have a great holiday season!
