Kyra’s blog: What I’m thankful for

Kyra Lockhart (Jersey Intensity) head shot“As Thanksgiving approaches I have been thinking about what I am thankful for,” says Kyra Lockhart, one of the top power-hitting freshmen in the country and a name you’ll be hearing a lot about over the next few years.

In her second blog for StudentSportsSoftball.com, the recent Alabama commit talks about her busy last few weeks and takes a second to reflect during this week of Thanksgiving on those she appreciates in her life.

We first met Kyra, a first baseman with the Jersey Intensity, this fall at a Surf City showcase and were not only impressed with her powerful stroke on the field, but her personality and energy off of it.  When she said she loves to write, we knew she’d be another great blog writer for StudentSportsSoftball.com!

The last three weeks for me have been hectic!

My team has hopped from plane to plane going to play in premier tournaments. From Atlanta to Mississippi to California, my coach has had us occupied. However, the last few weeks have been productive.

My team did extremely well at our tournaments and we had a great schedule against the top teams in the country. It was GREAT! Being on the road can be difficult with schoolwork but I have great teachers who always help me get through!  No matter where I am or what time zone I am in my teachers are providing support. They are outstanding.

It feels like fall ball just began but as we wrap up I have time to sit down and reflect. For example, going into winter training I want to work on being more consistent at the plate and getting better at first and third base.

Now that I am verballed this is where the hard work really starts.  Every part of my game can approve and that’s what I am aiming for.

It's been a busy, but productive month for Kyra who's traveled the country playing in tournaments and capped it off by committing to Alabama.

Not only this, but as Thanksgiving approaches I have been thinking about what I am thankful for. Answering this question has always been simple for me. There are so many amazing people in my life that I am blessed to know.

My coach Kevin O’Donnell and his family who have always treated me like one of their own children. I feel like the O’Donnell’s have been apart of my life forever and I am grateful and blessed to know them.

Next, I’m grateful for my amazing teammates and friends. Without them life on the road would not be easy. On planes with my teammates there aren’t ever any dull moments. Although we live in different parts of New Jersey and some others out of state; we are still supportive of each other and bond like sisters. They are always pushing me on and off the field to be the best I can be.

Lastly, the two people I am most thankful for are my amazing parents. They are the reason I am able to travel the country and play the sport I love. My parents cart me around three times a week an hour and a half away to practice. The life of a premier softball club player for parents is a lot of time and money. But my parents always support me no matter what. In my opinion I truly have the best parents in the world!

This Thanksgiving when I sit down with my family the first thing I will say is how lucky I am to have them. Getting to travel all around the country with great teammates, coaches, and amazing parents is indescribable.

I am living the dream and loving every moment of it! So, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone as we take a short break from softball to appreciate the great people and things in life!
