Justus’ blog: my busy week

Justus Perry, a 2016 infielder from Prior Lake, Minn., is racking up some serious flight miles this fall as she’s flying the 1,000 miles to and from Birmingham, Ala., to practice on the weekends with her club team the Birmingham Thunderbolts. Perry was a 2nd team “AAA” All-State pick this past year as a freshman and led her high school to the state championship game.
She had originally committed to Arizona State, but with the coaching change and Clint Myers now at Auburn, she’s headed to the SEC and will play in the same state where her club team practices.
In this blog, she talks her typically busy week which includes school, training, flying to and from Alabama and practicing which hopefully will pay off in a few weeks with a successful debut in a pair of Florida tournaments.

Being an athlete is no easy task: you have to be able to balance school, friends, training, and practice all at once.
Finding time to train has been an easy task for me lately. I have been training three nights a week in a local gym increasing my speed, power, and agility.

After working out, you can almost always find me in my garage hitting off of my tee with my dad. Tee work is an essential part to any swing. Mechanics are the base for creating and improving a swing.
After the long week of school, Friday’s are no day off. When school ends, my dad picks me up and we head straight to the airport to catch our flight to Birmingham, Ala.
After the two-hour flight, it’s straight to bed knowing practice is early the next morning.
Most Saturday mornings I train by myself with Katelyn Boyd, a former All-American at Arizona State. We usually will return home Sunday afternoon. Then I do homework and try to rest a little bit before the week begins all over again.
I have two tournaments coming up at the end of October in Florida. My focus in the next few weeks is to train hard so I can perform at my highest ability. This will be my first debut as a Birmingham Thunderbolt and I’m looking forward to making a big impression!
