Video Spotlight: Brooke Vestal

When you have coaches from Alabama, Arizona State, Michigan State, Northwestern, South Carolina and Washington watching you pitch, you know you’re doing something right.
That was the case this week for Brooke Vestal, a promising pitcher for the Austin Stars which advanced deep into the 14U winner’s bracket.
Though they got eliminated on Friday, Brooke’s recruiting stock is soaring for a variety of reasons:
- she is nearly 6-foot tall
- she’s a very skilled athlete who also excels in volleyball and plays for a 15U AAU team
- she is a 4.0 student
- and last, but not least, she’s a dominant pitcher who’s headroom is enormous because she’s only going to be in the eighth grade!
That’s right, she still has one year of middle school left at Church Hill Jr. High in New Braunfels, Texas. In a year, she’ll attend Canyon High, also in New Braunfels.
Brooke has good DNA–her father Rick was a quarterback for the Baylor football team from 1987-90 and also played golf there one year.
We interviewed Brook and her Stars Head Coach Placido Garcia Thursday after the team’s 7-5 win over the OC Batbuster’s-McGowan/Ybarra in which Brooke had six strikeouts and hit a home run over the centerfield fence. At that time, he said of his pitcher:
You know, the first thing about Brooke is she passes the eye test. Coaches are seeing her right now… the Alabama coaches were just talking to me about her, wanting to know more about her… Brooke has great grades and great character, she’s from a great family and you couldn’t ask for a better package overall. She’s a hard worker who makes the adjustments, and she carries this team.
Here’s the video interview of Brooke, who is interested in the Univ. of Michigan because of family ties there as well as some other major schools she mentions in the clip.
