10 Questions with ACC-bound Amani Bradley

Amani Bradley is a talented 2018 outfielder who helped her Corona Angels-Tyson team win the PGF 14U Nationals a year ago as she led the team in hits, RBI and batting average (.480). Although her Angels team fell short this year, Amani had another stellar week at PGF Nationals as she led the team with a .467 batting average and a .556 on-base percentage.

A 2018 Hot 100 pick, Amani had major colleges from conferences like the ACC, Pac-12 and SEC looking at her, but two weeks ago she pulled the trigger and committed to Georgia Tech.

Here’s the latest on this special player who we did a full profile on in February of this year …

FloSoftball.com: When and how did you commit?
Amani Bradley:
I verbally committed on August 20, on a Thursday. I told Coach Shelly Hoerner that I wanted to become a Yellow Jacket and she screamed it was so exciting to hear my future coach be so excited to have me be a part of their program.

FS: Had you checked out the school prior to committing?
AB:
Yes, I visited in April. I really liked the city and all the great qualities on campus. The coaches were also so welcoming, so I knew if I were to go all the way a cross the country I would be ok.

FS: What was it about Tech that excited you enough to commit?
AB:
Being in the city. Also, being at such a prestigious academic school I knew I would be able to major in what I wanted to major in which is Biomedical Engineering.

FS: Did you check out other schools?  What did you like about them?
AB:
I looked at the University of Virginia, Arizona, Cal, Tennessee and Georgia. I liked all the facilities they had to offer to student athletes.

FS: Any concerns about going all the way to the other side of the country to attend college?
AB:
No, I have family in Georgia, so I know that at home games, I will always have a family member at my game. I know I am going to miss my family, but also having a support system in Georgia will help me get used to being away.

FS: What was your summer like?
AB:
The last few months have been really challenging and fun. I had a lot of great memories in the last few months, but the ones that stuck out the most were going to New Jersey, Colorado, and PGF. I had great weeks at all and we had a lot of team bonding in between games and after games.

FS: If you could give a word of advice to young players just coming into the recruiting process, what would you tell them?
AB:
When I look back at the recruiting process I learned that I had to look at the schools that wanted me. I also knew that I was choosing a school for my future and not just as a softball program. So my advice to the younger girls is to enjoy the recruiting process but most importantly chose a school that wants you, and think about life after softball and where you want to end up when you grow up.

FS: What was it about your play that attracted national attention?
AB:
My consistency in hitting, and being able to do all aspects of the game. Also my defense, I have been able to work on having a stronger arm and being able to field the ball cleanly. Even though I improved on these things, I can continue to work to become a better player. Now, moving up to the 18 Gold team I'm going to continue to strive to have the same consistency I had in 14's.

FS: Did you get a chance to take a break or catch your breath this summer?
AB:
No, but my trips to New Jersey and Colorado with my teammates and other girls from the organization, made my summer enjoyable. I also got to play against the Australian Jr. National team, so that was exciting. I mean who doesn't like a summer without softball?

FS: What's it like being back in school again?
AB:
I started August 12, which was four days after PGF, so I wasn't able to do as many things as I thought I would be able to do. I'm excited that I'm back in school because I have many great qualities, such as AP Psychology, Honors English, Algebra 2, etc.
