Sunday at the PGF Labor Day Showcase in Crown Point, Indiana saw the end of pool play and the beginning of the elimination games which will continue into Monday’s championship games.

The Showcase includes teams in the 16U and 14U divisions,with each team having played a pair of games in pool play on Saturday and another two on Sunday prior to the seeding being done 1-16 in each age group.

The elimination games began and there weren't many upsets--however, the main one was huge as the No. 1 seed at 14U, Bandits Premier, lost to the No. 16 seed Ohio Outlaws

Below are the final pool play scores and the seedings for Sunday’s start of elimination play, but first a recap of two of the premier games of the day:

Carlee Jo Clark was the pitching star for the Chill in the win over the Bandits.

The final leg of the 14U pool play games concluded and featured an old but friendly rivalry between two top Illinois programs: the Beverly Bandits and Illinois Chill.

The Beverly Bandits-Demarini and Chill 14U teams faced off in the first round (8 AM) of games and the Chill “pulled out all the guns,” putting organization head and 18U Gold coach Gerry Quinn in as the third base coach. The real star of the game, though, was in the circle for the Chill.

Carlee Jo Clark led the Chill with a three-hitter through five innings and only gave up one run in a 7-1 romp.

Clark helped her own cause with an RBI knocking in Fiona Giradot, and 2019 recruit Angela Zedak helped pace the offense as well with a pair of two-run home runs.

The Chill put the game out of reach in the third inning when Zedak hit her second home run and the team pushed the lead to 6-0.

Clark managed to keep the Bandit batters off balance with a change complemented by a tough drop ball.

​Mac Dunlap's bases loaded double was the difference in the Premier win over the Finesse.

*** Bandits comeback to beat Finesse

The Beverly Bandits-Premier looked like it would blow out the Finesse in the first inning of the 16U battle as the Illinois team nearly batted through the line-up.

However, the Bandits could only push one run across the board, that courtesy of an overthrow to second in an attempt to pick off University of Wisconsin commit Taylor Johnson.

The Finesse responded with a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning on an RBI double from Megan Turner.

In the fifth, the Finesse went ahead on a sac fly by Kalani Lau, but in the bottom of the sixth the Bandits regained the lead for good on a bases loaded double by Mackenie Dunlap into right center scoring Meghan Gagliano and Taylor Johnson.

“I knew I just had to do my job to get my team ahead. They got bases loaded for me and all I had to do was execute. I had to move the runners; I had to be productive," Dunlap, a Northwestern commit, said.

The Bandits would add three more runs and finish out the comeback victory by a 7-3 score.
