Sydney Supple’s Blog: It's Championship Day!

Sydney Supple from Oshkosh, Wisconsin is one of the top 2019 players in the country and last year committed to Northwestern when she was just 13 years old. The tall lefty, who is also a standout hitter, is a freshman at Oshkosh North High School and is playing on the Beverly Bandits-Conroy/Terrell 16U team that should be one of the best in the nation in its age division.

Sydney and her Beverly Bandits team have made it to the Championship Day of the PGF Labor Day Showcase and will be playing today (Monday) to win it all. FloSoftball is streaming the event. Join Now to see the championship games!

In today’s blog, Sydney talks how her team has done this weekend...

The PGF Labor Day showcase is now the tournament to kick off the fall season, which is the definition of college showcases and the prime time for recruiting.

Fall showcases amaze me because, for many of us, we are playing with a new team, preparing for a new softball season with a new group of girls and we are trying to connect with them to get on the same page.

At the same time you want to be playing at your personal best showcasing yourself in front of the many coaches that are out on the prowl hunting for players!

We finished pool play 3-1 this weekend and Meghan (Beaubien), a pitcher committed to Michigan) and I combined for a shutout to win our first bracket game last night 8-0 over the Mizuno Hawks.

It gets interesting for all teams, not just ours, when it comes down to bracket play. This tournament is single elimination and you are playing to win, but it’s also a great time to showcase any of the players who aren’t yet committed.

The great thing about my team, and all the Bandit teams, is that we are strong all the way through the lineup.  Whatever nine girls are out there—especially the girls who are trying to get exposure—we have just as much confidence in them as we do with any of the girls that are already committed!

Today at the ballpark I overheard a man describing our team as “something special.”  I couldn’t agree more with him, but what he said next I loved even more.

“They are not necessarily something special for the amount of talent each girl carries, because a lot of teams are very talented, but they are special for the heart and passion each kid delivers every time they step on the field!”

It amazes me that in such a short amount of time we’ve played together, we play as if we grew up together and trusting that the other person will get the job done and believing in each other which is key!

This morning we will continue in bracket play and will be coming out ready to fight right away at 8 am!
