Some fun verbals to report as we have news of several standout underclass players who just committed this week and background info on their selections…

One of our latest developments we’re excited about at FloSoftball is we’re not just streaming key events, we’re now starting to archive the games on our site!

Last weekend’s Dirtdogs Team Mizuno Fall Showcase saw us stream 65 games and we’re going to have those available on our site now to watch after the event.

The feedback we’ve received is that the games shown live are great for family members who can’t attend in person for various reasons and we’re finding some college coaches love being able to stay home and watch online because it doesn’t cost them a recruiting day.

The big advantage of the archived games now will be that players and attending family can go home and watch themselves.

We even had one interesting aspect of streaming and archived pointed out by a club coach who wanted to find a game and isolate a player’s strikeout, because she had negative body language.  The coach wanted to show the athlete how detrimental that looked to a college coach.

Streamed games as a teaching tool? Who knew?

Last week, we interviewed Charisma Romero, a 2018 catcher with the So Cal A’s-Briggs team, as she was with her mother, Beatriz, and sister, Chloe, a 2017 pitcher with the So Cal Dirtdogs committed to Texas, as the three were on their way to LAX to fly to Boston for Charisma’s unofficial visit to Boston College.

We’re happy to report that last night Beatriz wrote to tell FloSoftball that Charisma did commit to BC.

She e-mailed us saying, “Boston was beautiful and Boston College was amazing. Charisma loved the campus and the coaches. She verbally committed while we were there. We are all very excited!”

The proud mom of the two college-bound players recapped the exciting weekend:

“We were met on campus by Head Coach Ashley Obrest on Friday and Charisma was able to sit in on a Psychology class. After class, Coach Ashley gave us a tour of the campus along with a few other recruits.”

“Friday evening we attended a tailgate with the Boston College softball team and the recruits got to watch the game against FSU in the student section of the stadium, truly giving them a college experience.”

“Saturday we met with the coaches and toured some more of the sports facilities on campus. That afternoon we watched the softball team practice and after the practice Charisma asked to speak to Coach Ashley and that is when she committed!”

“Sunday we drove out to Rhode Island to watch them play Bryant University and ended our weekend with a lobster dinner to celebrate!”

Definitely, a weekend the family won’t ever forget.

Her club coach, Ken Briggs, gave us a scouting report on the sophomore saying, “Charisma is a player that coaches love to coach! She is hard working, plays with heart and is a team player.”

“Charisma is also aggressive at the plate and has good power. We are looking for her to be a big part of our lineup this year.”

*** More BC news:  the Golden Eagles have found two excellent players from the CT Charmers who also played for Southington High (Conn.)

First it was Kendra Friedt, the 2015 All-American pitcher who also played her senior year with the Jersey Intensity, and more recently it was Natalie Wadalowski, a 2016 infielder whose younger sister, Jeanette, a 2018 shortstop is one to watch from what we hear.

*** The CT Charmers also can lay claim to the Connecticut Gatorade State Player of the Year in Caroline Taber, 2016 pitcher headed to Princeton.

Taber committed to the Ivy League school two weeks ago.

She has been a two-time 1st Team All-State player, she led Fitch High to its second straight Class L state championship game.  She also has a 4.28 GPA.

Claire Feldman of the PGF 16U National Champion Tampa Mustangs is headed to the Pac-12.

*** The story of 2015, in my opinion, has to be the phenomenal run of the Tampa Mustangs in the PGF 16U Premier Nationals when the Florida team lost a play-in game and then won 12 straight games to capture the National Championship.

The team was led by two very underrated pitchers in seniors Cassidy Davis, a Mercer commit, and Claire Feldman, also a senior who had been committed to Palm Beach Atlantic, but had her stock blow up after PGF where she started six games, went 3-1 with a 0.94 ERA and had 43 strikeouts 37 innings.

Cassidy, by the way, was equally dominating with a 0.79 ERA, 6-0 record and 38 K’s in 44 innings.

And here’s what’s amazing: the two star pitchers go to the same high school! That would be Newsome High in Lithia, Fla. which won the Class 8A state title May.  Ya think great pitching had anything to do with it?!?

In June, Claire pitched her team to the ASA “A” National Championship so in the span of four months won a state title and two club national crowns.  Good summer, I’d say.

Not surprisingly, her recruiting interest went off the charts and Tuesday night we got a nice note from her mother, Chris, saying she’s headed West:

“We are excited to let you know that this week Claire has verbally committed to play softball in the Pac-12 at the University of Utah.”

“After both ASA and PGF championships she received a lot of interest, specifically from Utah, Northwestern and Syracuse, but ultimately chose Utah given everything it offered both athletically and academically.”

“She also fell in love with the beautiful campus and really connected immediately with the coaches.  She is excited for all that the future holds.”

*** Speaking of the Tampa Mustangs, Coach TJ Goelz wrote to tell us another one of his star players, starting catcher Hannah Pridemore who also played third, committed this week to Duke.

Hannah caught nine of the 13 games at PGF and had 43 put-outs, four assists and just one error for a .979 fielding percentage.

Regarding Duke, Head Coach Marissa Young is really racking up the verbals now for the Blue Devils; that’s the fourth in as many weeks since Peyton St. George, a talented 2017 pitcher from Virginia, was the first at the beginning of September.

*** So how many 2019’s would you guess are committed right now?  10? 25?

Our Master Verbal List is pretty up-to-date, but surely we are missing a handful... the latest one is No. 34 on our list.

That would be Lexi Voss, a 2019 OF/UT player with the Beverly Bandits 14U Futures team who has committed to Michigan.

Lexi is an outstanding all-around athlete even though she’s just a freshman and has been clocked a 2.7 home-to-first with a bat speed of 88 mph.

She’s from Palos Park, Ill.
