FloSoftball's FAB 50 National High School Rankings

With highly competitive softball teams playing each other multiple times over the past several days, there were upsets and drop outs. Many of the top high school softball teams in California, Arizona, Texas and Florida are facing each other this week.

The Desert Mountain Invitational in Scottsdale matches many of the best teams in Arizona. Desert Vista of Phoenix was unranked heading into the event starting off with a 7-0 record blanking of Mesa Desert Ridge, ranked No. 42 in last week’s FAB 50. The Thunder later beat Pinnacle of Phoenix (No. 9 in last week’s FAB 50) 8-6 in the championship game. Thunder faced Pinnacle yet again winning game two 2-1.

Brooke Hughes stood out for Desert Vista all week and finished with just one run allowed in 22 innings. Senior Mara Kemmer also had a big week for the Thunder. Kemmer went 3-for-3 with a run scored in the final game and raised her season batting average to .578.

With the dust settled and all results obtained for this week’s FAB 50 in the books, Desert Vista jumped from unranked to No. 25 in the latest rankings.

The team will continue to play tough competition, meaning that some of the one-run wins can easily turn into one-run losses.

This week’s rankings also saw Oakleaf of Florida, Guyer of Texas and Etiwanda of California all move up into the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 positions with previous No. 2 Los Alamitos falling to No. 5.

The Griffins, fresh off winning the Dave Kops Tournament of Champions in Arizona, dropped their first game last week. The loss was to Mission Viejo, whom they also defeated earlier in the week.
