LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky softball senior pitcher Kelsey Nunley was named the Southeastern Conference’s Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Nunley becomes the first player this season in the SEC to win Pitcher of the Week in back-to-back weeks, and joins Auburn’s Kasey Cooper as the only back-to-back award winners all season.
The Soddy Daisy, Tenn., native went 3-0 in the week, with all three wins coming against top-20 teams in the SEC. Her week began with a complete-game shutout of No. 8 LSU in Baton Rouge to cap off a sweep of the No. 8 Tigers on the road for the first time in program history. That performance was followed by book-ending the weekend with Friday and Sunday wins over No. 18 Missouri to clinch Kentucky’s fifth SEC series win this season.
Nunley, who is an ASA/USA Softball National Player of the Year finalist, as well as a Senior CLASS Award finalist, currently has a 1.14 ERA with a team-best 17 wins. She has appeared in 25 games for the Wildcats, recorded 10 complete games and six shutouts in 128.2 innings pitched. With Monday’s complete-game shutout win over LSU, Nunley overtook the NCAA lead for career innings pitched by an active pitcher, and now has thrown over 880 innings of work in her four-year career in the Blue and White.
