Atlanta Vipers Moore flew under the radar for most of the summer beating strong teams out of the midwest and eventually winning the 16U USA JO Cup. The Vipers are dynamic team with power lefties and speed on the bases. Most of their players are still uncommitted. We sat down with manager, Marty Moore, to talk about this special group.
How long has this Atlanta Vipers Moore team been together? The team started together as an eight and under team in coach pitch. We've just evolved and been a winning team all the way through. There's probably six or seven players that have been with me over six years. It's a good core group. We seem to add more good players.
What's been the most impressive tournament your team had this summer? We played a pretty intense showcase schedule. We played the IDT in Colorado.
What makes this team so special? Cohesiveness I would say. A lot of them have played together for a long time. Charles and I look for a different kind of kid. These kids I have they are just relentlessness.
How would you describe this team? It's a great mix. We're not one way. We're not strictly a power hitting team. I think we hit 21 home runs out in Colorado. We're not strictly a speed team. I've got three girls that can get down the line pretty fast. We're just a great mix. Speed and power. We've got some live arms. We have tough kids. They're winners.
What have been the most impressive wins this summer? We've beat the Texas Bombers who won ASA Nationals. We beat the EC Bullets Biele team. We beat a really strong Beverly Bandits team.
