After a summer hiatus, the Master Verbal Breakdown is back! And whoa, it came back with a bang.

The months of May-August saw 519 girls commit during prime-time playing season. Of the total 519, only 123 players committed to Big 5 schools, with the SEC conference leading way with 33 commits.

Since we've started the breaking down our Master Verbal lists, the SEC has always been the conference with the most commits. Five SEC schools tied with the most commits over the summer for the conference with four each: Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The ACC and Pac 12 tied for second among the Big 5 conferences this summer, both landing 26 commits. Syracuse led the ACC with eight verbals, and Stanford led the Pac 12 with six. The Big Ten managed 22 verbals over the summer, with Ohio State taking nearly a third of the total at seven, while the Big 12 fell short of every other conference with only 16 commitments.

Of those 16 Big 12 commits, 2016 WCWS Champion Oklahoma landed six, tying the school with Stanford for the university with the third most verbals this summer. Syracuse and Ohio State tied for second with seven commits each, and Dartmouth landed the most verbals this summer of any school on our list.

Among club teams, Panthers Fastpitch out of Florida and the Birmingham Thunderbolts both committed 16 players from their organizations. Tying for second among club teams with the most commits this summer were Colorado Next Level and Aces Gold - Jacoby, both with eleven. The following seven club teams all tied in third with 10 verbals this summer: Batbusters - Gomes, Beverly Bandits, Georgia Impact - Lewis, Jersey Intensity, Oregon Blaze, So Cal Choppers - Ziese, and Texas Rapid Fire.

For the first time ever, we had to include the 2021 class in our Master Verbal list. Oklahoma State committed the first 2021 player, Tatum Sparks, from the Gametime Stars 2020 team.

She is the only 2021 to commit (for now). The class of 2020, whose Hot 100 list drops September 5, accounted for 4% of the total commits with 23 this summer, while the class of 2019 committed 80 players for a total of 15%. The 2018 class committed the third most players with 124, the senior class of 2016 was in second with 140, and the 2017s led the way with 151 commits.

Of the total 24 commits from the classes of 2020 and 2021, only 14 players accounting for 58% will be playing for schools in the Big 5 Conferences.

Similarly to all of our other Master Verbal Breakdowns, a majority of committed players were battery players. Pitchers accounted for 131 commits and catchers were 82, giving the battery positions 41% of the verbals from this summer.

Interestingly enough, July saw the most commits with 182, and June and August had 154 and 150 commits, respectively. May was not surprisingly the lowest month by far with only 33 verbals.
