Gabi Deters Verbals to Kentucky

Gabi Deters was a rising star we featured in May as one of the best uncommitted 2019 catchers left in her class. After a successful summer, Deters is off the market following an unofficial visit to Kentucky.

She shares her experience traveling to Lexington and making her big decision.

nullIf it wasn't for Evan Beatty telling Coach Lawson about me and her coming to watch me play I don't know where I would be. I meet coach in the morning and she takes me and a girl on my team out to see the campus.

First we went to see where the basketball boys and girls practice and where the volleyball girls play. After we tour the campus which is beautiful, we go to softball field. I step on the field and see myself playing, it's a amazing feeling. Then we get to go in the club house and meet all the girls.

This is where they hang out before they go to the field. Everyone was so welcoming. After we talk to all the girls and ask them questions, we see where they have indoor practice. We finally make our way to the locker room, which was REALLY nice!

We got to see what the jerseys look like, equipment, and clothing. After the locker room, we head to the football stadium to tailgate with all the girls and coaches before the game. The food was amazing!

nullWe start walking to the stadium and when we're walking I see everyone wearing royal blue supporting the Wildcats and I think they could be supporting me like this when I play. What an amazing dream. I get to go on the field while the boys are warming up and then we get to sit with all the softball girls and cheer on the football boys.

I got a feeling that this is the place I want to play softball at for my four years of college. Coach Lawson was a big part of my decision! Just the way she acted with the girls. She told me she takes care of her girls and she's more than a coach.

The University of Kentucky community is so electric it's amazing. Lexington was beautiful and if you haven't seen it you need to! Yes it was a very hard decision to pick where I wanted to go! Hardest decision I've made and it's also 6.5 hours away from home. But I know I won't regret the decision I made. I wouldn't be able to do all this without my family, friends, coaches, and teammates and I thank them all!
