Huntyr Ava is a 2019 first baseman of Samoan descent who is paving a long future in softball through hard work and faith. Her family committed to travel from Utah to California so Ava could play for the California Cruisers, and they've never looked back.
Over the last two years, Ava has attracted attention of Alabama, Utah, BYU, and Texas.

Grad Year: 2019
Hometown: Park City, Utah
Position(s): 1B/3B
Club Team: California Cruisers Sievers

How did you get involved in softball? My dad pushed me and my sister to play this sport. I started when I was 7.
What's softball like in Utah? Nothing compared to California. Less competition. The tempo is slower in Utah.
What is it like to play for a team that's out of state? It gets tiring, but it's fun at the same time. It's worth it. I'm learning new skills and developing into the best softball you can become. It's well worth it.
Is it common for Samoans to leave Utah to play softball in other states? Not really. I started playing for the Cruisers two years ago.
Was that a hard decision for your family? It wasn't hard. My mom works for the airlines. It's easy for us to travel.
Why did you decide to join the Cruisers? We wanted to extend our future in softball. We got invited to the Cruiser tryout, so we went and it was fun. I like that I get to interact with other girls. I build on my skills. I get to work with coach Mel (Sievers).
What do you feel like you've improved on most over the last two years? My hitting and my fielding. Basically everything. My biggest strength is hitting.
How would you describe your experience on the Cruisers? It's so much fun. It's a blessing to be on the Cruisers. The practices are really hard. The middle of the practice is the hardest. We're usually working on fielding.
Looking back on the summer, what's your favorite memory? Making it to the championship game at PGF. I was terrified, but at the same time I was excited. It was nerve-racking playing in front of everyone and being on television.

What the recruiting process been like? I'm humbled and blessed because all of my hard work is paying off. It's been fun taking unofficials. I've gone to Alabama, BYU, and Utah. I have a trip to Texas this month.
What's your ultimate softball dream? To become a college softball coach. I love this game. I would like to continue it when I grow older.
Favorite place you've traveled to: Florida.
Favorite Movie: "The Book of Life."
Do you play other sports? Basketball.
Favorite Samoan Food: Musubi.
Favorite softball player: My sister Breah Ava.
Do you have any superstitions or rituals? I always pray before every game.
Who do you look up to most? My dad, mom, and aunt.
If you could describe yourself on the field and off the field in one word what would it be?
On the field: Loud
Off the field: Chatty
