Sydney O’Hara Ties NCAA Record With Four Homers In One Game
O’Hara or O’Homer?
Syracuse senior Sydney O’Hara cranked four home runs Friday in a game against North Carolina State, tying the NCAA softball record for homers in a single game.
No player in Syracuse softball history has ever hit four home runs in one game and O’Hara is the first collegiate softball player to do it in 2017. Only four others in Division I softball history have hit four homers in a single contest, etching O’Hara’s name in history.
O’Hara hit a two-run blast in the first inning, a solo shot in the third, a three-run mash in the fifth, and two-run homer in the seventh. All told, the star player, who pitches and plays first base and the outfield, had eight RBIs. Syracuse ended up winning the game, 11-5.
On the season, O’Hara now has six home runs, 25 RBIs and 14 runs scored. Her slugging percentage is a robust .922 and she’s hitting an absurd .500, all numbers that put her in the upper echelon of ACC hitters.
The Cicero, N.Y., native is also Syracuse’s de-facto closer, compiling a 4-1 record with four saves and a 1.70 ERA in 15 games pitcher this year. She also leads the time with 66 strikeouts in just 37 innings pitched.
In other words, O’Hara as “All-ACC First Team” candidate written all over her.
