We already knew softball players were badasses. This just further cements the fact.

Caitlyn Taylor was in Destin, Florida, for a tournament with her Atherton High School softball team over the weekend when she was attacked by a shark while wading in the water at the beach, per a report in the Louisville Courier-Journal.

Taylor, 17, was bitten by the shark in the legs. Her response? Not terror, but instead, fight. Taylor hit the shark until it let her go, witnesses said.

The Kentucky native later posted the after-effects of the frightening incident on Twitter. Her sister, Paige, also tweeted about the situation.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Department in Florida confirmed the sequence of events with the Courier-Journal and with a post on its Facebook page. Taylor was in waist-deep water in the Gulf of Mexico when a 5-foot shark attacked her.

The sheriff's department said Taylor had six puncture wounds on her leg and needed 80 stitches.

The Northwest Florida Daily News reported that this was only the fourth reported shark attack in the area since 1882.
