FloSoftball continues our look at the Class of 2021 as we update the Hot 100 over the course of two weeks this month, spotlighting 10 outstanding players each day on the way through the countdown from 100 to No. 1.

We'll announce the Top 10 of the class on Friday, May 19 and shortly after will profile the No. 1 player and then the "Next In" classes comprising prospects #'s 101-200, 201-300, 301-400 and 401-500!

FloSoftball has ranked the Hot 100 beginning with the 2014 Class and has done every year since: 2015, '16, '17, '18, '19 and '20 and we've also updated most of those years several times (the 2019 Hot 100 being the most recent, updated in February).

And as for the 2021's--who are just in the eighth grade, even though many are playing up at the varsity high school level already--we'll update the Hot 100 list several times too over the next five years so know this is just the starting point!

These honorees were chosen based on input and feedback from college and club coaches as well as our own FloSoftball event and in-person observations. Criteria for choosing and ranking the players includes performances at the club and high school levels and projecting how they will play at the collegiate level.

Today we feature players No. 30 to 21 who come from Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia (3), Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas (3).

***

T-30--Macy Krohman 3B/P… Beverly Bandits Futures -- Helbling (uncommitted)null
Krohman is a prototype third baseman who has elite power, strength and bat speed that enables her to drive the ball to gaps or go over the fence at any time; her last tournament, for example, she hit three home runs. Said one coach, "Her measurable for her class are off the charts, she's coming into it and is absolutely killing the ball." In the field, Krohman's athleticism allows her to play multiple positions at a high level, but at third base she's ideal because her arm strength allows her to shut down opposing teams' short game. Her overhand throw is routinely clocked at 65 mph-plus. Derek Allister of OnDeck Softball states, "Macy is an excellent prospect from the Midwest who will play at a high level." Big Ten, SEC and Big 12 teams are actively involved.

T-30--Annie Dalton C/IF… Impact Gold -- Lang (uncommitted) null
Dalton is a two-way threat as she's a shut-down backstop who regularly throws out the fastest baserunners with her sub-1.8 pop time and overhand throwing speed of 63 mph. She is also a dangerous power hitter who has hit 15 home runs and three grand slams over the last year. As one coach explains it, "Annie's numbers are all collegiate level--from her pop time to her bat speed to her foot speed." Her bat speed has been measured at 72 mph and the ball exit speed at 73 mph. The athlete has also been laser timed at several camps at under 3.0 seconds home-to-first and her arm strength allows her to play infield positions like third and short when needed. Dalton is also clutch in that she rises to the occasion as shown by her leading the Impact in RBIs over the last year and she has compiled a 1.432 OPS. The Georgia athlete has attended camps at Tennessee and Alabama and will focus this summer on checking out more top programs.

T-29--Ally Sockey SS… Tulsa Elite (uncommitted) null
Sockey is one of the top defensive players at any position in this class and is one of the top 1-2 shortstops in the nation. She has great hands and lateral movement and one coach said she "plays shortstop like a baseball player and plays way beyond her age." Last fall almost every D1 coach that watched her compete wanted Sockey to come to his or her college camp and many said they wanted to recruit her after watching Sockey play a few games. Tulsa Elite organization head Jeff Filali says, "She may turn into the best defensive shortstop we've ever had." Sockey just attended an OnDeck Softball event last week where she continued to impress and, with her defensive tools and improving offensive abilities, she has major programs from the Big 12, SEC and Pac-12 after her now.

nullT-29--McKenzie Newcomb P/UT... Tennessee Fury (uncommitted)
McKenzie or "Mac" is a big right-handed power pitcher who throws in the low 60's with excellent control and great spin. Many scouts feel she is one of, if not the best, best power pitcher East of the Mississippi. At the plate, McKenzie is a true power hitter who wants to be in the box with the game on the line. This year as an eighth grader at Hazel Green High (Alabama) she led her team to the Alabama 6A state championship after which she was awarded MVP of the tourney. She ended the season with a .418 batting average, 15 home runs and 51 RBIs and was the ace on the mound pitching 244 innings with 218 K's and a 1.78 ERA. Several of the Alabama schools have shown serious interest along with a couple of SEC schools and one from the Pac-12.

28--Lexi Campbell MIF… Beverly Bandits Futures -- Helbling (uncommitted) null
Campbell is a competitive shortstop who coaches rave about because of her intuitive skills and outstanding work ethic. The right-handed hitter has gap power and in the fall led her Bandits team in batting average while also knocking in 59 runs. Lexi does the little things that change the momentum of a game, especially defensively including her ability to make defensive stops with a great backhand, cleanly field short hops or make tough throws from all angles of the field. One college coach, referring to these skills, commented, "her backhand and short hop skills are beyond reproach." Campbell is a multi-sport athlete who can play the middle infield, outfield and even third because of her quick reflexes and release. The Indiana native has been on visits to schools in the SEC, ACC and Big Ten.

T-27--Elena Escobar P... Tennessee Mojo (uncommitted)null
The Mojo is loaded with talent and it all starts in the circle with Escobar who pitched the team to a Top 3 finish at USA Select Nationals and to a Top 7 finish at PGF Nationals where the team went 5-2. "E," as she's also known, is a bulldog in the circle and wants the ball in the biggest game situations. Her versatility is also attractive as she can start or come off the bench to get the save. Escobar throws consistently in the 59-61 mph range with good movement and she's effective at hitting spots and changing speeds. The Tennessee standout is also working on a riseball that will take her effectiveness to another level. Escobar has been invited to several camps and has attended ones Tennessee, Arkansas and Alabama (hitting camp) as she's also a dual threat as a batter. One coach thinks her stock is rising so quickly, she'll be committed to a Power 5 conference school by the end of the summer.

T-27--Makenna Segal 3B/1B… East Cobb Bullets -- Aycock (uncommitted) null
Segal is a standout corner infielder with great defensive skills and one of the top bats in the 2021 class. A great all-around athletic talent--her parents both played sports in college--"Mak" also excels in basketball and as a springboard diver. Between the lines, she is a shutdown corner who is the only 2021 on a 2020 team and in the fall led her squad with a .517 batting average and a 1.456 OPS. Makenna also struck out just once in 62 at-bats last autumn and she went over 150 at-bats at one point last year with a K. Last summer she batted .533 at the ASA 14U Nationals and was one of the stars at December's talent-laden Faster2Faster camp in Myrtle Beach where she went 4-for-6 with two home runs in tourney games. Defensively she's reliable with a .975 fielding percentage last year and accounting for her leadership qualities one scout described Segal as "the type of player you plug in the line-up and expect to start for you for four years at a high level." She's being recruited by Power 5 programs nationally such as Florida State, Michigan, Michigan State, South Carolina and Ole Miss.

T-26--Turiya Coleman C/UT… Impact Gold -- Mata (uncommitted) null
Coleman, or "T" as college coaches have nicknamed her, is one of the best all-around athletes in the Hot 100. She's a true left-handed triple threat at the plate and can hit with power, slap or drop a bunt like a lead-off hitter--and all of this as a catcher. At 5-foot-8, Coleman averaged 30 points per game in basketball and on the field uses her quick, explosive first step to run a 2.75 home-to-first. She's not just an elite athlete, the Texan has great backstop skills as well and in catching gear has registered a 1.7 pop time. Her physical skills and softball tools, which include being able to hit with power and play the small game, have led to her taking campus visits to Oklahoma, Houston and Texas Tech with Texas, Texas A&M and Lamar also in the picture.

T-26--Baylea Brandon 1B/OF… Texas Blaze (uncommitted) null
Brandon is a lefty power hitter who is ideally suited to hit in the middle of the line-up as she has a sweet swing that allows her to drive the ball deep to all parts of the yard. She tested as one of the top athletes at the OnDeck Camps with her Index Score ranking her 337th out of 5,888 players tested and putting her in the 94th percentile. Said OnDeck's Derek Allister: "I loved that kid at Mt. SAC (the college venue), Brandon's a top-tier player who can play in any program in the country." Brandon is also a lock-down first baseman as she has good hands and knows how to play around the bag. She is getting major interest from programs in the SEC, Big 12, Pac-12 and elsewhere across the nation.

25--Lauren Sciborski C/3B… Michigan Finesse (uncommitted) null
Sciborski comes from the same organization that produced Amanda Chidester (USA Women's National Team) and Finessee organization lead Donny Dreher says he believes Sciborski is ahead of Chidester in her development at this same age. Strong and aggressive, Sciborski is a solid receiver and good defender with advanced arm strength which has been measured at 66 mph and her pop time clocked at 1.82. Her power bat is another top aspect of her game that has major colleges excited about her ability to play at an elite level. Last fall, playing against top competition, Sciborski hit .492 and drew the interest of major programs across the country including Michigan, Ohio State and Northwestern in the Big Ten and Oklahoma outside the Midwest. Several Power 5 schools have offered.

24--Taylor McKinney P/OF… Birmingham Thunderbolts 03 (uncommitted) null
McKinney is a multi-position standout who pitches at a high level with a drop, rise and change that her Bolts coaches call the "Devastator." The right-handed recently led her Park Crossing High (Alabama) team to a Class 6A Area 4 championship and was named Tournament MVP. She's also a dangerous power hitter and has hit seven home runs this high school season and when not on the mound showcases her speed in the outfield. Last year, she was one of the stars at the Select 30 in Alabama where she was named a 1st Team All-American. A multi-sport athlete who has been a cheerleader as well for several years, McKinney is being heavily recruited by SEC schools and has taken unofficial visits to Auburn and LSU where she received the Best Pitcher Award.

T-23--Sydney Stewart 3B/OF… East Cobb Bullets -- Byars (uncommitted) null
Stewart is a right-handed power hitter who is a natural athlete and the rare player who can do it all between the lines. She is a double-digit home run hitter -- some feel 15+ is very doable this summer-- due to her raw strength yet the Georgia star is also a great base runner because she has very good speed and situational awareness. Stewart can play most anywhere on the field, but lines up primarily at third and in the outfield for the Bullets where her instincts and arm strength are "top notch," according to one coach. Stewart is getting heavily recruited by major schools in the Big Ten, SEC and ACC and is interested in programs such as Ohio State and Tennessee out of state and Georgia Southern closer to home.

T-23--Grace Keene 1B/3B So Cal Choppers -- Fausett (uncommitted) null
Keene is a big, tall corner infielder who is close to 6-foot and is a "ball smasher" according to head coach Gary Fausett. Keene has grown up in the Choppers' program and has been a big part of the organization winning many tournaments and even national championships. She's an excellent first baseman with range and impressive agility for someone her size and also runs the bases well because of her instincts in anticipating plays. According to Derek Allister of OnDeck Softball, "Grace is special... she clubs the ball and is one of the top hitters in the class because she hits for a high average as well as for doubles and triples." Keene was one of the stars on the team last fall when the Choppers topped the Angels 2-1 in the PGF Shootout at the 14U level and has her team once again looking like one of the top favorites to make a PGF Nationals run this summer. Keene is getting looks from many of the Power 5 conference heavyweights and will have her pick of Top 25-caliber teams.

22--Devyne Davis 1B/SS Wagner's/3n2 (South Florida)null
Davis is believed to have been the third commit in the 2021 class and it was a no-brainer for her to commit to USF for several reasons: her parents are alums; the athlete is close to her family so playing close to home was important; and she's coached by Kortney Salvarola, a Bulls shortstop from 2010-14, who has trained her well in Coach Ken Eriksen's system so she'll hit the ground running when she steps food on campus. But that doesn't discount the high-level talent of the Florida standout, who is very athletic and has great body control for a player her age. She has excellent arm strength which allows her to make all the plays at shortstop and has Davis has become a leader defensively playing up with older players. She is a gap-to-gap line drive hitter with increasing power production and at the high school level has hit over .500 with a 1.230 OPS and a .962 fielding percentage. One coach calls the young athlete "a cerebral kid and field rat who works on some aspect of her game every day--it may be something as simple as hitting socks off of a tee in her living room, but this kid will never be outworked."

21--JaNaiya Thomas 3B/UT... Impact Gold -- Mata (Houston) null
Cheyenne Mata's team is overflowing with athletes and leading the list is the player many scouts feel is the most explosive athlete in the class, Thomas, a 5-foot-7 triple threat speedster who has been clocked at 2.6 home-to-first making her the ideal lead-off batter. The Texan plays third for the Impact, but can play anywhere on the field because of her track-like speed and quickness and ability to intimidate pitchers and defenses. She also has the tools to cover her own pitchers' mistakes by getting to balls most players can't and recording outs that look like sure-fire hits. Thomas was just started to get recruited by many Top 25-caliber teams from conferences like the Big 12 and SEC when she committed to Houston before the recruiting process really began. Expect her to be a significant contributor the moment she steps food on the Cougars' campus.
