Select Fastpitch Defends Homestate

It's no surprise that the top two pitchers at the Top Gun Invitational made it to Sunday night's 16U Championship night cap.

Select Fastpitch stunned Texas Glory Naudin in the semifinal game with a come from behind victory in the bottom of the fourth (Time Expires at 90 minutes).

Glory lists 15 Division I commits with 12 of their players going to Power 5 conferences. And Select lists seven uncommitted and seven committed with only two going to a Power 5 school.

Glory should win right? Wrong.

It was 2019 Mizzou-commit Jordan Weber who was on fire in the circle for Select Fastpitch. The right handed pitcher mixed her rise, change, screw and curve striking out seven Glory hitters.

In the bottom of the fourth, Select trailed by one run. Kate Kobayashi led off with a walk and 2018 uncommitted outfielder Emma Golden was the hero when she knocked a two-run bomb off of Oklahoma State-commit Mattie Boyd.

Golden's home run was enough to carry Select Fastpitch into the championship game where they met Nebraska Gold Gerdes.

Nebraska Gold Gerdes eliminated Gametime Stars 2020 Smith to advance to the finals.

The most impressive 2021 pitcher at Top Gun was Nebraska Gold's Jordyn Bahl. Bahl gave a gritty performance on the mound with nearly the same amount of strikeouts as Mizzou-commit Weber.

The first four innings were scoreless until Nebraska-commit Billie Andrews blasted a low-lining home run over the left field fence off of Weber to put Nebraska Gold up 1-0.

Select wasted no time answering back in the fifth scoring on wild pitch by Bahl to tie up the game 1-1 thanks pinch runner Peyton Moeder (2018, Valparaiso).

Going into the top of the seventh, Taylor Ullery (2018, Houston Baptist) ropes a single and Moeder follows with a walk. A wild pitch was thrown and both runners advanced to the next base.

With Ullery on third and Moeder on second and one out, Jessie Hagen (2020, uncommitted) stepped up hitting a deep fly ball to right field to score Ullery and Moeder. Select Fastpitch are now ahead 3-1 going into the bottom of the seventh.

Weber sealed the Championship ending the game with a strikeout. Weber got the win with 12 strikeouts, 2 hits, and 1 earned run.

Nebraska Quakes Battle For Championship

Nebraska Quakes Prime Mizuno turned up the heat in bracket play eliminating the KC Peppers, Wichita Mustangs, and Louisville Slugger Huecker to make to Championship Sunday.

The Quakes met familiar foes Nebraska Gold Unzicker who were undefeated going into the finals.

Timely hitting and solid pitching from Logan Black (2017, Creighton) was the difference maker for the Quakes as they beat Nebraska Gold 7-6 to take the 18U Top Gun Championship.

Texas teams Dirt Divas and Impact Gold DFW Middle were crowned Co-Champs of the 14U Top Gun Invitational title.
