Former Louisville Player Survives Vegas Mass Shooting

Louisville Athletics Chrisanna Roberts

Former Louisville softball player Chrisanna Roberts was attending the Route 91 Harvest in Las Vegas when the bullets started raining down. In fact, just 45 seconds earlier, the 26-year-old had posted a video on her Instagram story of Jason Aldean's performance.

When mayhem ensued, Roberts and her friends first sought cover.

"I honestly thought I was going to die," Roberts told Thomas Novelly of Louisville's Courier-Journal. "I'm running out of the concert and people to my left and right are getting hit with bullets. I've never felt a fear like that in my body before."

The former Cardinal and her friends evaded fire in a merchandise booth, according to Novelly's report, before deciding to flee the scene rather than wait in hiding. In the interview, Roberts recalled the chaos that many of the survivors have recounted of not knowing origin of the shooting.

In her time at Louisville, Roberts was team captain in 2013 and earned academic honors as well.

The mass shooting in Las Vegas left 59 people dead and over 500 injured when 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The incident is considered the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
