This past weekend, my parents and I packed our bags and flew from our home in Wisconsin to Clearwater, Florida. Following the dream I have had since a little girl, we booked a trip to chase it.

It's trip I have been counting down for the last 60 days since it I decided to pursue it — I was going to compete in the Open Tryouts for the USA national team.

Immediately I started setting up a schedule for myself to ensure in 60 days I would be ready to compete alongside the best of the best. Every morning, I set my alarm for 4:45 AM and went to the gym every before school, gaining strength and increasing my quickness. I knew I would be one of the youngest — if not the youngest — athlete at the tryout.

Following school, I alternated between days of pitching and long toss, hitting, or a second workout. I did this consistently each day, building up a little bit more strength than the day before. I can honestly say I have never felt as physically ready for anything in my life.

December 31, 2017, was the day of the tryout — a day I'll always remember: walking on the field and being asked to play catch with Alabama’s center fielder. Pitching alongside Carly Hoover and Brittney Gray, two of the top college pitchers in the country who I've spent many hours in front of the TV watching, and having normal conversations with them regarding the game and life. Shagging balls for Golden Glove Softball winner, AJ Andrews.

Walking side-by-side with some of softball's most talented and having the chance to compete with them for a spot to represent our country was the opportunity of a lifetime, and one I plan on working towards again.

It was the most ideal way to end my year, and start 2018 with a clear vision I want to share with others. This year, dream big, and when you decide to follow your dream, dedicate yourself to turn it into a reality.

Once you do that, create a plan on how you are going to achieve that, and attack it because it will be worth every sacrifice. This year I have made another plan: I'm going to work towards every single one of my dreams like I did this one.

When the moment you have dreamed about arrives, you’ll be able to compete to the best of your ability. By doing this over the next 12 months, looking back on 2018 you will realize you accomplished your dreams by giving it everything you have and experience moments that will last a lifetime. To everyone reading this, 2018 is yours — go conquer everything you are working for, and turn your dreams into reality.
