College Softball Weekly Recap: No-Hitters Dominate NCAA Softball Action

By Lincoln Shyrack

Do you like no-hitters? If you said yes, well, there were plenty of them across the country in college softball over the weekend to scratch your itch, making for a parade of strikeouts from some of the NCAA's best pitchers, Check out the highlights below.

Oklahoma dominates Baylor in Waco, has won 22 in a row

The top-ranked Sooners continue to be on fire, and after sweeping No. 15 Baylor in Waco, Texas, over the weekend, the defending champions have extended their winning streak to 22 games. That’s the longest active streak in the country.

OU hasn’t just been beating their opponents, either; they’ve been crushing everyone. After outscoring Baylor 18-1 in their three-game set, Oklahoma has outscored its competition 172-15 during the win streak. While the offense has been mighty impressive, recording 13 run-rule wins so far in 2018, it’s really been the work of the pitching staff that has allowed the Sooners to punish everyone in their path…

Mariah Lopez and Paige Lowary combine to toss OU’s 50th no-hitter

The Sooners were so good over the weekend that they earned two mentions here. Sophomore righty Mariah Lopez went three hitless innings Friday before senior lefty Paige Lowary finished things without surrendering a hit over the next two frames.

The streaking Sooners won 9-0 over Baylor to record their 11th run-rule victory in their last 21 games. Remarkably, the no-hitter was the 50th such performance in Oklahoma school history, but just the fourth ever done by multiple pitchers.

While OU dominated the game, preserving the no-no took some defensive heroics.

Fresno State’s Danielle East strikes out everyone in her no-hitter

Fresno State freshman became the 22nd pitcher to throw a no-hitter in program history—and the first to do it all via strikeout—with her no-no against New Mexico on Saturday. Of her 15 punch outs, 11 came of the swinging variety, punctuating just how unhittable East was on the day.

G Juarez throws first no-hitter as a Sun Devil, 30th in Arizona State history

The no-hitters were a dime a dozen across the country last weekend, and Arizona State ace Giselle Juarez got in on the party with her 11 strikeout performance in the No. 9 Sun Devils' 7-0 win over BYU on Friday. It would seem that this no-hitter will be the first of many for the sophomore:

Amber Fiser throws her first no-hitter for Minnesota

Sophomore righty Amber Fiser certainly made the most of Minnesota’s home opener by tossing her first career no-no in the Golden Gophers' 6-0 victory over Illinois on Friday. Fiser struck out 10 while allowing just one walk.
