Oklahoma battled their way out of the loser’s bracket to face Washington in game 11 at the Women’s College World Series. But the Sooner will not be the team that three-peats.

Washington played a perfect game shutting out the back-to-back champs in Oklahoma City 3-0. Today’s win marked the second time that the Huskies shut out the Sooners at the WCWS.

Oklahoma ace Paige Lowary got the start for the Sooners and the Huskies drew first blood in the first inning when Sis Bates dropped a sneaky bunt single. After stealing second base, Julia DePonte singled to the left side to score Bates.

Washington pitcher Taran Alvelo pitched a gem scattering seven hits with unbelievable defensive plays made behind her.

In the bottom of the third, Taylor Van Zee singled up the middle and advanced to second on a Bates bunt. DePonte laced a single to centerfield to move Van Zee to third. Freshman Noelle Hee has been red-hot at the WCWS bouncing a ball through the 3-4 hole to score Van Zee taking a 2-0 lead over the Sooners.

The Sooners threatened in the fourth inning with runners in scoring position but Trysten Melhart made another miraculous play diving forward to snagging a Shay Knighten hit.

DePonte launched a solo shot to left center off of Paige Parker in the fifth for her third hit of the day.

When the Sooners threatened to score in the fifth with runners on first and second and two outs, Trysten Melhart made a superman grab on a Shay Knighten line drive.

The Huskies will face the winner of the UCLA/Florida State game in a best of three championship series starting on June 4 at 6 PM.
