The Florida State Seminoles became National Champions for the first time in program and ACC history after defeating the Washington Huskies 8-3 in game two of the best of three-game series. FSU also became just the third program in WCWS history to lose the first game and go on to win a National Championship.

Senior third baseman Jessie Warren’s career ending at FSU could not be much sweeter as she was named the Women’s College World Series MVP. And Meghan King’s performance in the circle was legendary holding the lowest ERA (.21) amongst any pitcher in the WCWS.

“All these girls to the right, the girls on the bus heading home right now, they're the ones that made that happen.” Head coach Lonni Alameda told reporters in the postgame press conference. “And our lesson from last year from Team 34 was to have a little more fun. Last year's team was amazing. We did everything right, but we forgot to celebrate the little things.”

Contributions and heroic moments were made on offense and defense from so many different players. From Anna Shelnutt’s five home runs since the ACC tournament to Elizabeth Mason’s three-run blast against UCLA that saved the Noles from elimination, each player’s efforts contributed to winning their first National Championship.

The first inning got off to a rocky start for the “Cardiac Kids.” After a string of hits and errors, the Huskies added three runs on the board for a 3-0 lead.

FSU responded in the first with a two-run blast by “Postseason Anna” Shelnut off of Taran Alvelo. Their offense continued to pound the ball in the second when Zoe Casas doubled, Cali Harrod walked, and Mason singled to right center to score two.

Warren followed with an RBI single to score Mason to take a 5-3 lead.

The Seminoles attack on offense would not end in the second as Mason rocked a two-run home run over the centerfield fence to give FSU a four-run lead.

Gabbie Plain would enter the game for Alvelo and Warren quickly launched a solo shot to centerfield for an 8-3 lead.

After the fourth inning, King would only give up one hit. She pitched a complete game scattering five hits and one earned run.

Full of emotion and gratitude Warren told press conference reporters,

"I think that's everything you dream is to leave college with a W and end the season with a W...I came into this program as a kid, and I'm leaving a strong woman."
