Mike White has confirmed that he will be leaving the University of Oregon softball program to take the head coach position at the University of Texas.
"It came down to the ability to get some financial security for my family," White told the Oregonian/Oregon Live in a phone interview. "An opportunity like this comes along once in 10, 15, 20 years. I think it's a good time, it's a good fit and I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead of me."
White’s career at Oregon was marked with many milestones including a No. 1 ranking in 2014, five Pac-12 titles, five Women’s College World Series appearances, and a record of 435-111-1. He was also a key catalyst in the building of Oregon’s $17 million Jane Sanders Stadium.
White had three years remaining on a six-year contract with the Ducks, which the Longhorns are now buying out.
An announcement will be made in Austin, Texas, on Tuesday morning.
