Japan wasted no time in taking the lead. Eri Yamada led off with a double against Zhao Xinxing and scored on a defensive error.
Yamada was not finished. In the bottom of the second, she homered to left and extended Japan’s lead to 3-0.

Japan broke the score open in the bottom of the third adding 2 more runs on 3 hits. The two-run rally was capped by a line drive double in the gap to left center by designated player Yamato Fujita.

Yukiko Ueno worked five innings, gave up a hit and a walk and struck out six, before leaving room to Yamato Fujita.
