EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon softball team added to its roster for the upcoming 2019 season on Monday as head coach Melyssa Lombardi announced the signing of freshman catcher Terra McGowan.

A native of Mission Viejo, Calif., McGowan will be a true freshman for the Ducks this spring after spending the fall at Arizona State. McGowan was the No. 20 ranked player on the 2018 FloSoftball Hot 100.

"Terra has a strong presence about her that will make her a great leader for this team," said Lombardi. "She can hit for power, runs well and will do a tremendous job of handling our pitching staff and controlling the running game. Duck fans are going to love watching Terra the next four years."

McGowan was a three-time all-league first team selection and a member of the all-Orange County team in 2016 when she helped lead Mission Viejo High School to the CIF Championship. She hit a whopping .540 with seven home runs as a senior and also starred for the OC Batbusters – Stith club team.

McGowan also thrived in the classroom throughout her high school career, carrying a 3.8 GPA and earning Scholar Athlete recognition from the school following the 2017 season, when she was also Mission Viejo's varsity offensive player of the year.

McGowan and the Ducks will open their 2019 season with a doubleheader against Kansas and Cal State Northridge on February 8 at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
