18 Things Only Softball Players Understand

The key to success for every great pitcher is a great catcher.

Julia Cottrill is exceptional on the field and was named the No. 3 overall player in the nation in the 2019 class. Winning the PGF 18U Premier National Championship, her Georgia Impact squad was stacked with talent in every position on the field and in the lineup with Kelley Lynch on the mound, Sklar Wallace at shortstop, Charla Echols at third and the list goes on.

Most recently, Cottrill made the USA Junior National Team for the second time after showcasing her impressive swing and ability behind the plate. At Stillwater High School, she was Oklahoma Fastpitch Association All-State Selection and 2017 Offensive Player of the Year.

How old were you when you started playing softball? What do you love about softball?

I was four when I started playing. I love the competitiveness of softball and also love the amazing friendships I’ve made along the way!

Where did you go on your visits? What did you like about those trips?

At LSU, I loved the culture. I liked how involved the fans were and the food was good too. At Notre Dame, I loved the history of the school and the campus was so beautiful. At Oregon, I loved the endless amount of Nike and the history of it. Also it was cool to learn the culture of a different part of the US. At Oklahoma, I grew up going to camps so it was super cool to also get the opportunity to experience the everyday lives with the girls and to learn the culture of OU softball. At Florida, I instantly fell in love with the campus and the atmosphere Coach Walton created at UF.  The competitiveness and fun environment were exactly what I was looking for. It was also super cool to get to spend time with the girls on the team and learn their culture.

When did you verbally commit to the school of your choice? Why that school?

April 2nd of my freshman year I committed to the University of Florida because I instantly fell in love with the competitiveness and the "will to do whatever it took to be the best." I loved the fact that I would be mentally and physically challenged every day. I was also blessed for the opportunity to play for the best coach in the nation!

What were your plans for signing day?

I signed in November!

What excites you most when you think about college?

New experiences and opportunities. And I can’t wait to be pushed to be the very best version of myself every day.

What's one thing you're going to take from home and bring to college?

A quilt my grandma made when I was young, I take it on every trip I go on.

What song(s) will be your walk-up song?
