Holy Salukis! Southern Illinois pulls off the 4-1 upset over top 25 Mississippi State at the Puerto Vallarta Challenge.
Brianna Jones held the Bulldogs to one run and five hits. Katelyn Massa led the way with a stellar performance plating two runs for the Salukis in the first and sixth inning.
The Salukis struck first in the bottom of the first with a two-out RBI single by Massa. The Bulldogs responded in the top of the third tying up the game after a Kat Moore RBI single.
Headed into the bottom of the sixth, Massa sent a solo shot to center putting the Salukis up 2-1. Kyleigh Decker followed with a double to right and Ashley Wood continued the trend with a double to score Decker, 3-1. The bases were juiced for Susie Baranski who walked to plate another run, 4-1.
The Bulldogs did not have an answer in the seventh as they left six runners aboard.
