The University of Northern Iowa softball community mourns the loss of Micalla Rettinger who graduated in 2016.

Rettinger was driving home early Sunday morning around 2:30 AM on Highway 218 when she was struck in the neck by a bullet that also struck her boyfriend, Adam Kimball.

No arrests have been made. The bullet was recovered and will undergo testing. Police and family are asking for anyone with any knowledge of this shooting to come forward with any information that might help the case.

The Police offered a $26,000 reward for any information that could lead to an arrest for the person responsible for the death of Rettinger.

"I am devastated. KK was a pretty special kid to us," head softball coach Ryan Jacobs said. "I can still see the smile on her face and I remember the way she always thought of other people first in a genuine way. When we had youth camps, she was the one that all of the kids on campus would be drawn to. This is a huge loss to our team and everyone that knew her."
