Oklahoma State Advances To 2019 NCAA Super Regionals

STILLWATER – The No. 13 Oklahoma State softball team defeated Tulsa, 2-1,  for the second time in two days to clinch its first super-regional berth since 2011 on Saturday at Cowgirl Stadium.

The victory was OSU's 42nd of the year, marking the most in a single season for a Cowgirl team since the 2011 team also won 42 games.

The Pokes had to come from behind once again - their 16th comeback win in 2019 - to claim their spot in the super-regional round and avoid the dreaded 'if' game, as Tulsa snatched a 1-0 lead after a leadoff double and three infield groundouts helped the Golden Hurricane plate the first run of the day in the top of the first.

OSU responded and knotted the game at 1-1 during its second trip to the plate, which is when Madi Sue Montgomery lined a double off the left-field wall to score Samantha Show all the way from first. It was Montgomery's 201st career RBI, which is the sixth most in Big 12 history and the top total among Cowgirls all time.

Junior Sydney Springfield polished off a successful second round of at-bats for the Pokes with an RBI single that scored Kiley Naomi from second base. It was just the latest in a series of clutch hits for Springfield, who has become an important figure in the OSU lineup.

In addition to her go-ahead single against Tulsa, Springfield has delivered a walk-off home run against No. 13 Kentucky, a game-tying two-run triple against No. 13 Texas Tech and a go-ahead two-run single against No. 8 Texas in last week's Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship.

Samantha Show handled the load for Oklahoma State in the circle, as she gave up only one run on four hits in a seven-inning gem. It was Show's 18th complete game of the season and the win improved her record to 19-7 as a Cowgirl.

OSU's super regional opponent and location will be determined Sunday, as the Pokes are lined up with the Tallahassee Regional's winner for next week.

If No. 4 Florida State advances, the Cowgirls will head to the Sunshine State, but if the defending national champions are upset early, it will be another weekend of play in Stillwater.
