January 27, 2020 – The California Commotion announced today the signing of infielder, Sam Fischer.  Fischer, a veteran professional, and former national team player is expected to significantly contribute to the launch of the newest team in the National Pro Fastpitch League (NPF).

Fischer first entered NPF competition in 2016, when she spent two seasons with the Akron Racers. She followed that up with a two-year stint as with the independent professional team, Scrap Yard Dawgs while also balancing competition in the Japanese Professional League as a member of the Toda Medics during the 2018 and 2019 competitive seasons.

Throughout her playing career, Fischer has also spent an impressive amount of time as a member of USA Softball, representing the country in international competitions. Seasons with USA Softball include 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2016. 

Collegiately, Fischer put together one of the most impressive resumes ever assembled during her career at Loyola Marymount University (LMU). She was a 3-time All-Pacific Coast Softball (PCSC) All-Conference selection while twice being named the PCSC Player of the Year. Fischer remains the record holder in career batting average, home runs, RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs scored, doubles, and walks. In the 2012 season, she led the nation in batting average and slugging percentage with the eye-popping stats of .492 and .665 respectively. For that performance, she became the first All American in LMU softball history, when she was named to the 2012 NFCA All American Team.

For her overwhelming impact on the LMU softball program and LMU athletics in general, Fischer has twice been bestowed a distinguish honor by the university. In 2019, LMU inducted her into the LMU Sports Hall of Fame and also retired her number 52 jersey.
