George Washington opened the 2020 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in a close matchup against BYU. 

Looking to follow up last spring's historic run to a share of the A-10 title, GW softball has welcomed the season-opening test of facing a decorated field on foreign soil at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. 

The Colonials kicked off their 2020 campaign on Thursday, dropping a doubleheader at Nancy Almaraz Stadium. The opener featured a tremendous pitchers' duel with the Buff and Blue falling 1-0 on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh. They ceded the second game to Utah Valley, 9-1, in five innings.

GW will be challenged with three more contests vs. quality competition in Mexico, starting with Friday's matchup vs. Oregon under the lights.
