THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University softball team will play in the Sunshine State for the second time in as many weekends as the Colonels are set for five games in the Madeira Beach Tournament.

Live stat links will be available on the schedule page.

SCHEDULE

  • Purdue (Friday - 10 a.m. central/11 local)
  • Butler (Friday - 12:30 p.m./1:30)
  • Middle Tennessee (Saturday - 12:30 p.m./1:30)
  • Southern Illinois (Sunday - 8 a.m./9)
  • Mercer (Sunday - 10:30 a.m./11:30)

Nicholls (1-5) will be hoping to change its fortunes from last weekend after notching its first victory Tuesday against Alcorn, 9-1 in six innings. The Colonels run-rule the Lady Braves behind a strong outing by sophomore Emily Danehower, who allowed no earned runs in five innings of work. On offense, Melise Gossen and Corynn Major had two hits each, highlighted by a bases-loaded double by Gossen that cleared the bases.

Major has had a hot start to her junior campaign with eight hits and four runs scored. She has hit safely in four of six games this year, including a 3-for-3 game against Jacksonville.

Danehower has seen the most time in the circle, totaling 22.1 innings with a 3.45 ERA. After fanning seven in the win over Alcorn, she has 16 strikeouts on the year.

The Colonels faced quality programs in Jacksonville a week ago and it will be no different at Madeira Beach. Purdue brings a perfect 5-0 record, Butler is 4-1, and Middle Tennesse has split its six games. Mercer has notched one win so far and Southern Illinois, which Nicholls went 1-1 against last year, is searching for their first win of 2020.
