Clermont, Fla. --- Minnesota State extended its win streak to eight games on day four of the Spring Games played in Clermont, Fla., Wednesday afternoon. In game one, MSU defeated Lock Haven 8-1, followed by a 6-1 win over the Pitt-Johnstown.

With the results, the Mavericks improve to 15-3 on the season while the Bald Eagles fall to 5-8 and the Mountain Cats fell to 3-3. In game two, Carly Esselman recorded her 200th career hit and now sits with 202 hits in a Minnesota State uniform.

Game 1

Katie Bracken (5-1) started the game and earned the win pitching the complete game allowing only one run on six hits with six strikeouts. Kinley Gioglio (0-1) started for the Bald Eagles and took the loss pitching three and a third innings and allowed eight runs, seven of them earned, on eight hits.

Lock Haven opened the scoring in the second inning with a single that brought in a run from third. In the bottom of the second, Torey Richards opened the inning with a double and scored after the catcher struggled to control a ball.

In the bottom of the third, Minnesota State took the lead on a sac fly from Sydney Nielsen that scored Esselman.

Hannah McCarville broke the game open in the fourth inning with a two-run homer before Esselman took advantage of bases loaded and hit the second Maverick homerun of the inning, giving MSU the final score of 8-1.

Esselman finished the game 2-4 from the plate with four RBI from her grand slam while Richards finished the game 3-3. Kayla Moky lso went 2-3 from the plate and scored a run.

Game 2

McKayla Armbruster (3-0) started the game for Minnesota State and pitched the complete game allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight batters to earn the win. Kristie Radvan (0-1) started for the Mountain Cats and took the loss allowing six runs, three of them earned, on seven hits.

Esselman continued her fiery hot start to the season with a leadoff single in the first inning which was her 200th career hit in a Maverick uniform.  In the top of the third, the Mavericks got on the board when Esselman drilled a double that scored Moky before being driving home herself by Hailey Forshee.

The Bears scored their lone run in the third inning on an infield error. Once again, Minnesota State got the run back and more in the fourth inning when Moky singled in McCarville followed by a three-run homer from Esselman.

Esselman finished the day 3-4 from the plate with four RBI while Moky finished 3-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.
