Carlyn Wynn Named Minnesota Associate Head Softball Coach

Carly Wynn has been named the Gopher softball associate head coach after most recently spending 2016 through the 2020 shortened season at Arizona State University as an assistant coach, head coach Piper Ritter announced Wednesday.

"I am excited to announce Carly Wynn as my first hire to the gopher softball coaching staff," Ritter said. "Carly brings a wealth of knowledge with her to Minnesota and is an exciting addition to our program. She was an outstanding player for the Florida State Seminoles where she amassed several offensive records. She was applauded for her scholastic achievements and was proficient in all aspects of the game. Her knowledge of the game and her experience recruiting student-athletes for multiple conferences will be an asset for Gopher softball. She is a great fit for this organization and will provide an immediate positive impact."

Wynn helped Arizona State to a 135-57 record with a 2018 Women's College World Series appearance in her time as an assistant there. She was the team's lead recruiting coordinator, camp director and was in charge of alumni outreach. On the offensive side, Wynn assisted with all aspects of hitting and was in charge of short game, slappers, and baserunning. On the defensive side, she coached an outfield that saw two 2019 All-American honorees in Morgan Howe (First Team) and Kindra Hackbarth (Third Team).

"I couldn't be more excited to join Coach Ritter and the Gophers," Wynn said. "I'm so thankful to Mark Coyle, Marc Ryan, and the entire administration at the University of Minnesota for the opportunity to be a part of such a well-established program. This team already knows what it's like to win at the highest level, and I'm excited to continue that legacy alongside Coach Ritter."

From 2012-16 Wynn was an assistant coach with Fresno State helping lead the Bulldogs to back-to-back Mountain West championships. She coached the 2014 Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year Brenna Moss in the outfield. Both Fresno State and Arizona State saw total run production improve greatly under Wynn's guidance on the base path. From 2013-16 Fresno State increased run total by 142 while Arizona State went up 104 runs from 2016-19.

From 2010-12, Wynn spent time as a graduate assistant and volunteer assistant at her alma mater, Florida State. As a player at FSU, Wynn ranked Top-10 in four-season offensive categories including walks, triples, doubles, and slugging percentage. She finished her career ranked Top-10 in seven offensive categories including batting average, runs scored, hits, doubles, home runs, walks, and slugging percentage. She was a three-time All-ACC honoree, earned All-American honors once, and went one to play one season in the National Professional Fastpitch League with the Tennessee Diamonds.

In the classroom, Wynn was a three-time ACC Academic honoree and earned Academic All-American honors in 2010.
